If you want delicious food served with creativity, family friendliness and a nice decor - this isn't it. If you want the same meal prepared by the same rude, inflexible people - then this is your place. go for Trattoria Tra Di Noi’s signature dishes like the Lasagna alla Bolognese and favorites like. The world has changed in the last 40 years. It seems what Tra Di Noi has in abundance is authenticity. We never left a restaurant, but we did tonight and found another fantastic place just 2 blocks away San Gennaro. We've been dining out for more than 40 years and have taken our daughter dining all over the world. When our daughter requested shrimp with pasta in butter sauce, she was told it was "impossible." Rather than offer a child-friendly alternative, our waitress stood with her arms crossed as if a 13 year old should know better. There were "specials" but nothing special about them at all. Once we got to our table, we were served by someone who could not care less to help us choose our order. When we arrived, we were greeted gruffly and our reservation temporarily lost. I hope thet Tra Di Noi has great food, because it did not have the other four. Or hopefully a good combination of all of these. It's either superb food, a creative menu, great ambiance, family friendliness or impeccable service. When there are so many good Italian places in the area, you need something special to help you choose. Some friends recommended Tra Di Noi and we made a reservation. There are too many restaurants in the area to bother going back.We spent the day at the botanical gardens and thought it would be good to try something on Arthur Avenue. Restauranteurs should know that the stranger who walks in the door could easily become a regular if impressed with the service and food. Otherwise, you are given the bare minimum of consideration. This is one of those places where, if they recognize you as a regular, you are treated well. Had she done that, I probably would've ordered something else. I noticed, however, that for some tables, the waitress listed the specials. There was a blackboard on which specials were written but, it was impossible to see them from our vantage point. Tra Di Noi: not worth our time - See 176 traveler reviews, 58 candid photos, and great deals for Bronx, NY, at Tripadvisor. My husband's chicken scarpariella was excellent. In the middle of lunch a waiter came over and told us to hold onto our glasses and plates because he was moving our table to make more room for a large group sitting next to us. Certainly, that was understandable but, they weren't all reserved and we were not offered any other options. When my husband pointed to a table against the wall, we were told that it was reserved. There were several empty tables but, we were placed at one right in the middle of the floor where we would be in everyone's way. We make a point to stop at a different restaurant each trip for lunch before heading back to Connectiut. This includes a few favorite specialty stores and the market. That warmed my heart, and made me vow to come back soon to both Tra di Noi and the Belmont/Little Italy neighborhood.Įvery couple of months my husband and I visit Little Italy to restock our cupboard. What I really liked was that a few people who came in and some of the tables that were already there were greeted warmly by name showing to me that this establishment is part of a close neighborhood where the owners, workers and patrons live amongst each other. Regardless, service was good with water filling and follow up. We had come at the tail end of a busy Sunday lunch so it was a bit crowed. I also had a cappuccino and that very good as well. The potatoes seemed to have been roasted but left tender and the string beans lightly streamed. The Scarpariello was excellent!! The chicken medallions were lightly dredged in flour and perfectly sautéed in the wine sauce that had chopped red peppers with whole cloves of garlic and rosemary. The carbonara ( with fresh fettuccine al dente) had a nice light sauce, not the overly creamy sauce that most other places serve. So I ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara and hubby ordered the Pollo alla Scarpariello ( chicken w/Rosemary,white wine & garlic) which came with potatoes and French cut string beans. Hubby and I have a habit of sharing so we can try more new dishes. "Hmmm" I said, " Seems to be a lot of Italian restaurants" Well, not only did we stumble upon Bronx Little Italy (NY's better one) but on Trattoria Tra di Noi and a nice day just got better. After a quick Yelp I noticed a bunch of restaurants in the area. We were headed up to the Botanical Gardens but we were starving. It was our lucky day that after visiting the zoo we happen to exit on the Southern Blvd/Belmont neighborhood side.
